EGYPT HIGH-SPEED LINES
For a long time, Egypt’s rail network lacked the high-speed component, which greatly affected the Egyptian economy in the long run.
In 2021 Egyptian Minister of Transport Mr.Kamel Elwazeer approved the go-ahead for Egypt’s first high-speed line which extends from Sohkna to Alameen with a 660km length
The contract was signed on 9/1/2021 between the Egyptian government and a consortium of three companies (Siemens-AG—Oracsom-PLC—Arab-contractors). And this consortium will be responsible for all works related to the new line, from signalling and civil infrastructure to track laying and electro-mechanical works.
Siemens will provide signalling systems, traction systems, and rolling stock, while Oracsom and Arab contractors will provide track laying, civil infrastructure, and electro-mechanical works.
The Signalling system will feature the latest technology and comply with European standards. The European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2-compliant signaling system will incorporate the latest computerized interlocking technology provided by Siemens.
The first line will be served by Siemens Mobility’s Velaro high-speed trains, Desiro high-capacity regional train sets, and Vectron freight locomotives.
Works went immediately underway after signing the contract. The civil infrastructure works, which include four stations, are nearly completed. Track works also made significant progress, with 100 km of track being laid over the past two years.
The first line from Sokhna to Alamein is only one of three planned for Egypt’s high-speed network. The other two lines extend from the 6th of October to Abu Simple and from Sokhna to Hurghada, where the civil works are already underway by the civil contractors

With a variety of transportation projects from high speed rail to metro and tram projects Egypt has invested heavily in transportation projects in recent years. These projects will boost the economy and provide thousands of new jobs to Egyptians and will bring prosperity and welfare to the Egyptian people.
