Dutch Rail services are considered one of the most punctual in the world. The Netherlands also stands out as a country with a high preference among citizens for railway transport. In 2022 the 10.6% of total ridership was by train. This high usage of railways is the outcome of continuous advancements that the country pursues to keep its infrastructure and fleet reliable while providing passenger-oriented services.
In fact, the Netherlands was one of the first countries to take on the challenge of deploying the ERTMS system on a large scale. With a forward-thinking approach and exploration of new technologies, it became a playground for the first implementation of ERTMS.
