Overview of the “Australian Railway Signalling Reference Book” by Trevor Moore
Trevor Moore brings his extensive experience in railway signalling to this incredible book, written for those in the industry who are either starting or seeking specific knowledge. This hardcover book is beautifully printed on high-quality gloss paper and contains 34 detailed chapters that cover the essential principles, practices, and components of signalling systems used across Australia. The three main principles in the book are: what (the equipment), where (it is used), and how (to apply it).
There are several important features that differentiate this book from similar ones already issued in recent years:
• a multitude of additional helpful information, such as legislation, learning, training, and certification resources, as well as competency paths in continuous professional development descriptions for railway signalling engineers in Australia;
• high-quality, on-site pictures explaining various details about the parts of railway signalling equipment (for example relays, switches, signals, track circuits, level crossings, cables, etc);
• detailed breakdowns of activities for all phases during the development of the signalling system (specifications, procurement, design, construction, testing, repair, and maintenance).
The content of the book covers the following main items:
• Historical overview of the development of signalling systems, from token-based and mechanical signalling devices to modern computer-based signalling systems with continuous communication;
• Elaboration of safety principles and implementation architectures for signalling systems;
• Procedures for the integration of railway signalling systems into the whole railway system;
• Detailed overview of different indoor and wayside signalling elements (for example interlocking devices, power supply, train detection, point machines, signals, track circuits, level crossings, cables, assembly and wiring techniques, and many more);
• Protection measures when working on signalling systems on site (physical and electrical protection);
• Overview of current and future developments of the railway systems and equipment;
• Overview of the RISSB and state-specific standards and regulations from the field.
However, there is much more to discover, and you need to delve deeper to uncover everything that interests you.
Whether you’re already working in the railway signalling industry or just planning to start studying, this book is a must-have reference for you!

Topic - ETCS deployment in Europe
Based on previous discussions, I am posting the updated image of the current state of ETCS deployment in Europe. Your comments and updates are welcome!

Hello, nice article…
Thank you!
Thank you for sharing! Is there any data for Kosovo, Montenegro and Bosnia?
As far as we know, there are no ETCS systems installed yet, although there are some plans.
