News from MULTITEL

MULTITEL is a world-leading provider of test solutions for railway signalling products. Our adaptable test solutions are used worldwide, accelerating time to market, improving product quality and safety, and enhancing customer satisfaction.
Multitel’s laboratory offers accredited test services for ETCS subsystem and system Integration. We provide comprehensive test benches that cover Onboard and Trackside subsystems, as well as system Integration levels. Our test benches support all ETCS baselines and levels, and we offer a variety of advanced emulators, including Onboard (DMI, JRU, BTM), Trackside (RBC, IXL), and KMC, completing the full simulation chain.

In addition to the ETCS standard, Multitel has developed test benches and methodologies for the Korean Train Control System (KTCS) and Chinese Train Control System (CTCS). For years, Multitel has been the main test solutions provider and technology partner to the Korean railway industry and public institutions, actively participating in the development and implementation of KTCS in South Korea. In 2021, Multitel delivered a KTCS System Level Test Lab (MSILAB) to South Korea, which was used to validate a KTCS-2 pilot project of two Onboard Units and three Radio Block Centres over 180km of track and 25 stations. Thanks to MSILAB, KTCS-2 has been widely deployed in South Korea since 2021.

In 2022, Multitel, in partnership with Atkins Limited (now Atkins Realis), was awarded a contract by Network Rail to design, deliver, and operate the UK’s national ETCS Test Verification, Validation, and Integration Laboratory for 10 years. This first-of-a-kind facility provides operational signalling fault diagnostics, product acceptance and systems integration of ETCS signalling deployments across the UK. MSILAB serves as core component of this test facility, demonstrating the maturity and capacity of Multitel’s test technology. On the one hand, MSILAB is compatible with IoP (Subset-110, Subset-111, and Subset-112), while on the other hand, it offers broader test capabilities, including the ability to test and validate subsystems at the physical interface level.

Maintaining and inspecting the aging ETCS Subsystem, such as Eurobalise, is challenging task, and railway infrastructure managers often lack the right tools. Diagnosing interoperability issues can be particularly difficult. Multitel recognizes the need for effective on-field maintenance and inspection solutions. Drawing on our extensive expertise in testing, we develop specialized tools to tackle specific challenges related to railway on-site maintenance and inspection, along with training and consultancy services.

As a founding member of the Association of ERTMS Accredited Laboratories (EAL), Multitel actively contributes to developing the new Onboard Test Specifications for Baseline 4. Always at the forefront of innovation, Multitel invests in the development of future generations of ERTMS solutions, including FRMCS (5G), Hybrid Train Detection, ATO GoA4, GNSS, and the integration of other emerging standards such as EULYNX and RailML.
