SIM Factor railway simulators with even more realistic graphics at TRAKO
SIM Factor railway simulators with even more realistic graphics at TRAKO - premiere of new 3D visualization software ready for high-speed train driver training in Poland
Press release, 23rd September 2025
At this year’s TRAKO International Railway Fair, SIM Factor will present new 3D visualization software, offering even more realistic route reproduction in simulators. This will increase the possible simulated train speed to above 250 km/h, and eventually up to 300-400 km/h.
The graphical layer of SIM Factor’s simulator software, already covering more than 10,000 km of railway routes, including over 8,000 km in Poland, has received a major update. It will be showcased for the first time at the 16th edition of TRAKO International Railway Fair, taking place from September 23 to 26, 2025.
The changes presented by the SIM Factor at TRAKO include many improvements, starting with the appearance of vehicle graphic elements — including the effect of weather on windshield dirt and visibility — and the addition of new models and scenarios that can appear on the railway line. The appearance of the tracks has also been improved — both ballast and sleepers are now generated fluidly in 3D, resulting in a much more realistic visual effect.
A thorough graphics overhaul involves switching to the HDRP standard (High Definition Render Pipeline) in the Unity engine, which is used by SIM Factor to build its proprietary simulation software. Unity is used, for example, in the gaming industry to create animations and games for various platforms, including 2D, 3D, VR, and interactive visualizations.
The HDRP standard enables the creation of highly realistic and detailed 3D images. Its available graphic effects, including advanced lighting, shadows, and reflections, make the virtual world very close to reality.
“The switch to HDRP is another step in building SIM Factor’s competitive advantage. With the new software, we can already simulate train journeys at speeds of up to 250 km/h. We are working intensively on software architecture changes to ensure we are ready for speeds of 300-400 km/h. This means we are technologically prepared to deliver simulators for high-speed rail and start driver training long before the super-fast trains appear on Polish tracks”, says Michał Wierzbicki, CEO of SIM Factor S.A.
“Improved graphics show that our simulators are modernized throughout their lifecycle and will be continuously adapted to the highest standards. More realistic graphics ensure a more accurate reflection of the real world, resulting in even greater training effectiveness. Additionally, better graphics make simulators more attractive to the younger generation, who have grown up in a fully digital world. It is among them that schools and carriers will look for and train future drivers, and visually appealing simulators can only encourage young people to take up the profession”, Wierzbicki emphasizes.
The first commercial customers have already received test versions of the software. HDRP graphics will be available in all SIM Factor simulator models, from the most advanced full-cab motion platform, through the semi-open SMART version with a precise desk replica, to the compact SMART Lite – a desktop and fully mobile solution designed, among other applications, for vocational schools.
Two SMART Lite simulators will be available for testing the new graphics at TRAKO, located in Hall F, booth 60.
“Better graphics quality, including improved animations, creates an immersive training environment, allowing current and future drivers to immerse themselves in simulated scenarios fully. Our goal in moving to HDRP was to create the most realistic workplace conditions possible. This is not the end, as our proprietary software based on the Unity engine means we are working on further graphical improvements”, says Klaudia Narożnik, Head of Graphics & Enviro Department at SIM Factor.
